Jets coach Robert Saleh says he would be ‘shocked’ if Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury spells the end of his NFL career.
The 39-year-old lasted just four snaps of his Jets debut before a sack from Leonard Floyd saw Rodgers tear his Achilles.
The injury has sparked uncertainty over Rodgers’ long-term future in the NFL and Saleh was asked on Wednesday whether they had discussed retirement.
‘I haven’t gone down that road with him,’ Saleh said. I’d be shocked if this is the way he’s going to go out.’
The coach added: ‘He’s working through a whole lot of things he needs to deal with. That will be the last thing Italk to him about.’

Rodgers’ injury sparked immediate speculation over whether the Jets would look to bring in another veteran quarterback to fill the hole left by the four-time MVP.
But, according to reports on Wednesday, neither Tom Brady nor Colin Kaepernick will be under center for Saleh’s team.
But reports say the team will instead focus on adding someone familiar with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s system.

It is also claimed that Jets GM Joe Douglas will not be inquiring about Brady because the 46-year-old has made it clear that he’s done playing football.
Saleh insisted on Tuesday that Rodgers’ back-up, Zach Wilson, would step up to the starting berth.
The 24-year-old guided the Jets to a 22-16 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills after Rodgers suffered his injury in the first quarter on Monday night.
‘I want to make it very clear, Zach’s our quarterback,’ Saleh said. ‘We have a lot of faith in Zach. We’re rolling with Zach and excited for him.”
The coach did confirm, however, that the Jets will add another quarterback to their roster.
