An Adelaide father doesn’t know if he’ll ever play football again after being the victim of a shocking king hit during a local match.

Michael Reid, a South Australia playing for Munnopara in state’s amateur league, was knocked unconscious by a violent hit from an opposition player in a game against West Beach on Sunday.

He was attempting to break up a push and shove, before the man punched him to the pitch – with Mr Reid hospitalised as a result of the assault.

‘No one should ever have to go through that, and anyone who wants to do it shouldn’t be playing,’ he told Nine News.

Police and the South Australia Amateur League are currently investigating the incident and reviewing the footage, but no charges have been laid.

The video shows a scuffle breakout between the two sides during the game on Sunday, with Mr Reid among many rushing in to break it up.

He is then pulled away from the group by an opposition player, who flattens Mr Reid with a brutal punch.

The 38-year-old father was then seen lying motionless on the ground, with bruising, swelling to his head and deep lip wounds that required stitches.

The league said it doesn’t tolerate ‘any violence on or off the field’, but refused to comment on the individual incident.

Mr Reid said he has reservations about ever playing football again, a game he has loved for 35 years.

‘Going out there onto the oval where it happened, I broke down,’ he said through tears.’

‘It was hard.’
