Dipierdomenico’s wife Cheryl took to Facebook on Sunday to reveal the couple’s marriage had broken down in what she described as ‘a really hard post’.

News of the split comes amid reports Dipierdomenico was caught out sending flowers and champagne to his ex-girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, Perth Now reported.

According to reports, the ex-girlfriend posted photos of the gifts to Instagram, only for Cheryl to find out where they had come from.

‘Up until Valentine’s Day I was the happiest girl in the world having my family back as a whole! My world crumbled! Back to square one!!!!! Why why why! I’m devastated and broken but now I know it’s done!!!,’ Cheryl posted to Facebook.

Dipierdomenico reportedly defended sending the gifts to his ex-girlfriend as she had recently lost a loved one.

The Hawthorn Hawks Brownlow medalist had spent time apart from his wife last year until she agreed to give him a second chance. Dipierdomenico and his wife had been married for 41 years.

‘This is a really had post! Some of my friends say go for it, others say don’t say a word! I have to go with my gut! So I am,’ Cheryl posted.

‘I have loved this man for over 45 years! He came back to me in Sept wanting a second chance! I gave it to him because I thought, maybe it was my fault we fell apart!’.

Dipierdomenico said the marriage break-up was a family matter and he was sad the couple had split. The couple share two children and grandchildren together.

Earlier this year Dipierdomenico had appeared as a contestant on television program ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ where he divulged to viewers how much he missed his family while filming in the Australian jungle.

His marriage split is the latest to rock the AFL, with a slew of break-ups in recent months.

Richmond Tigers coach Damien Hardwick revealed in December he had separated from wife and the mother of his three children Danielle, whom he often referred to in the media as ‘Mrs Hardwick’.

Hardwick, 48, is now in a relationship with Tigers sales representative Alexandra Crow, which is believed to have started during the club’s quarantine bubble in Queensland during the 2020 season.
