The release coincides with a record heatwave which continues to sweep the nation, with temperatures forecast to hit 48C across Victoria and South Australia on Friday.

New South Wales is also in for blistering heat over the weekend, with Sydney’s western suburbs expected to reach 45C on Saturday.
