Alistair Brownlee’s Tokyo bid dashed after disqualification in Leeds triathlon

Alistair Brownlee’s Tokyo bid dashed after the two time Olympic champion is disqualified for pushing rival under the water during swimming leg of triathlon in his home city of Leeds as Britain’s Alex Yee takes victory

Double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee was disqualified as Britain’s Alex Yee won the men’s race at the World Triathlon Series event in Leeds on Sunday.

Brownlee was seen pushing America’s Chase McQueen under the water in the swimming leg of the event in Roundhay Park. Maya Kingma of the Netherlands won the women’s race ahead of Britain’s Jess Learmonth.

The disqualification would seem to end Alistair’s hopes of being named in Team GB’s Olympics squad. The 33-year-old has been struggling with an ankle injury.
