Ana de Armas’ viral fan account returns to Twitter and releases statement…days after deactivating

The viral fan Twitter account for actress Ana de Armas has been reactivated, after having disappeared from the social media platform earlier this week.

And in a statement tweeted out on Wednesday, the account’s owner explained the reasons behind their impromptu deactivation and how they plan to move forward with their content.

‘This account has always been one of absolute support for Ana de Armas. This account would not exist in the first place if I was not a fan of hers. Let me emphasize that: I am a fan of Ana de Armas,’ began the owner, whose account goes by @ArmasUpdates.

The statement then went on to address the viral fame that the account originally achieved by tweeting out and commentating on paparazzi photos of the 32-year-old Knives Out star, who is often pictured with her boyfriend Ben Affleck, 48.

The account made news back in April when the actress went as far as to block it on Twitter.

The statement continued: ‘The past few months have been a whirlwind ever since I applied a tone of constructive criticism to posts of candid photographs. This tone was so that I can take control of a narrative, even though it is not mine to begin with, and make people know that, as an Ana de Armas fan, I am aware that she should not have allowed herself to to be portrayed by the paparazzi in an unfavorable light during our current moment in time.’

The account owner was referencing the current coronavirus pandemic and de Armas’ frequent – and sometimes mask-free – public outings.

For her: 'This account has always been one of absolute support for Ana de Armas. This account would not exist in the first place if I was not a fan of hers. Let me emphasize that: I am a fan of Ana de Armas,' began the owner, whose account goes by @ArmasUpdates; Ana pictured in 2019

‘Furthermore, this tone was also used to highlight the inaction with her platform for social causes that need attention. There has never been malicious or harmful intent with my account; I was just trying to get my frustration out there that my idol could improve and be a better public figure.’

@ArmasUpdates then revealed that they deactivated the Twitter page ‘voluntarily’ in order to ‘take a short break’ for their mental health.

‘For the sake of my mental health, I voluntarily deactivated this account to take a short break. It got to the point where there was hate coming from all sides,’ they explained.

‘For the first time, I felt that my account was a bubble for hate — even directed towards me, personally, as the owner of the account. Nonetheless, I want to take responsibility for the indirect nature of my posts allowing a breeding ground of bullying, misogyny, and hate speech in relation to Ana in the comments sections for her public behavior, especially involving the relationship she is in currently.’

They claimed to ‘condemn’ all of the malicious dialogue occurring the threads of their tweets and that they only aim to attract genuine fans of the star to the account.

‘Moving forward, I will be careful with what I post on the account, since I understand that not everyone shares my sense of humor and this account is clearly tied to how Ana de Armas is perceived by others.

‘The mission of this fan account is not to tear her down, but to celebrate & respect Golden Globe nominee and movie star Ana de Arms. From now on, I will make sure to uphold that,’ the statement concluded.

The account regularly posted photos, presumably without permission, and included sarcastic captions about Ana’s day-to-day life, including her walks with her dogs.

She doesn’t seem to have appreciated the humor when she blocked it months ago, though the accounts creator told Paper in April that he was a fan of the actress.

‘I never meant for my tweets to be mean-spirited or insulting,’ said AJ, who was described as a 23-year-old Texan.

‘It was quite the opposite. I started to notice the tweets I made were making the rounds on Twitter and going viral in different places, which leads me to believe that someone that knows her notified her or her management team about the posts. I understand if she or they took it the wrong way, but it was always with good intentions,’ he explained.

The admin, who called himself a ‘dedicated cinephile,’ originally wanted to spice up photos of Ana’s daily routines with his humorous captions.

‘There’s only so much you can say about her leaving the house everyday without it getting boring,’ he contended.

‘I had to spice it up for the sake of my account. I wanted to have fun and was playfully teasing the aspect of their showy dog walks. I love how she doesn’t care that paps are outside her house and she’s going to serve a look no matter what, even if that means just going to pick up her dog’s poop,’ he continued.

‘I provided some lighthearted sarcasm in my posts towards her and Ben due to the fact that they were always outside and not following safety precautions in this pandemic that we are currently experiencing.’

AJ was presumably referring to Ana and Ben’s lack of mask use on most of their walks, but LA County’s mask orders allow residents to go for solitary walks or other recreation without masks as long as they’re able to socially distance, as the two actors regularly do.

Seemingly in solidarity with Ana, the official Knives Out Twitter account also blocked @ArmasUpdates.

Ben and Ana first met during the filming of the Adrian Lyne–directed erotic thriller Deep Water, which is based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith and stars Ben as a jealous husband who murders the men his adulterous wife gets close to.

The film, a remake of the 1981 French thriller Eaux Profondes starring Isabelle Huppert and Jean-Louis Trintignant, is currently set for a November 13 release date.

The two took their relationship public in March when they were seen enjoying a vacation in Costa Rica and Ana’s native Cuba.

The couple both have a busy schedule ahead of them.

Ana will star as Marilyn Monroe in an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ acclaimed novel Blonde, and she’ll also appear in the next Bond film, No Time To Die, which will be released on November 20.

Ben will likely have to record some new audio for Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of Justice League, which will premiere on HBO Max next year.

He was in the midst of filming his supporting role in The Last Duel for director Ridley Scott, which marked his first screenwriting collaboration with Matt Damon since they won Oscars for their Good Will Hunting screenplay.

It was also announced that he’ll be directing and starring in a remake of the classic film Witness For The Prosecution.
