Andriy Shevchenko has left his role as manager of Ukraine, just weeks after guiding his country to the quarter finals of Euro 2020.

The 44-year-old was appointed manager of the Ukrainian national team in July 2016 and was in charge for a total of 52 games, including five games at this summer’s Euros.

‘Today, my contract with the Ukrainian Football Association came to the end,’ he confirmed.

Shevchenko, who made 111 appearances for the Ukraine, scoring 48 goals between 1995-2012 enjoyed a glittering playing career mostly spent with Dynamo Kiev where he won five Ukrainian titles.

In 2004 he joined Italian giants AC Milan and enjoyed more success winning the Champions League in 02/03 and the Serie A title the following season.

He then joined Chelsea, but his spell in west London was rather less memorable; Shevchenko only scored 22 goals across two seasons before he re-joined Milan on loan for the 08/09 season.

However, he failed to recapture his previous form at the San Siro and returned to Stamford Bridge for the final season of his contract.

Shevchenko then returned to former club Dynamo Kiev and retired from football in 2012.
