Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals he missed Europa League trip to play Slavia Prague because he has been hospitalised with MALARIA contracted on national duty with Gabon: ‘I will be back stronger than ever soon!’

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he is in hospital recovering from malaria.

Aubameyang was a notable absentee for Arsenal in their season-defining Europa League quarter-final second leg with Slavia Prague.

But details of the Gabonese striker’s absence came to light just before kick-off in the Czech Republic as he posted a photo on his Instagram page of him in a hospital bed.

Accompanying the selfie, Aubameyang wrote: ‘Hey guys, thanks for all the messages and calls.

‘Unfortunately I contracted Malaria whilst being on national team duty in Gabon a few weeks ago.

‘I’ve spent a few days in hospital this week but I’m already feeling much better every day, thanks to the great doctors that detected and treated the virus so quickly.

‘I wasn’t really feeling myself the last couple weeks but will be back stronger than ever soon!’

More to follow.
