Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty with Egypt

The 28-year-old’s diagnosis comes a day before Egypt’s African Nations Cup qualifier with Togo on Tuesday, but the midfielder will now return to Cairo despite being asymptomatic. 

Elneny is now a doubt for Arsenal’s next Premier League match against Leeds United on Sunday afternoon. 

Arsenal and Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for coronavirus on international duty

The news follows the coronavirus diagnosis of Egypt team-mate Mohamed Salah last week, who tested positive just days after attending his brother’s wedding. 

Elneny’s agent, Alan Nzamy, tweeted: ‘Elneny Positive Cov19 get well soon’. 

The Egyptian FA have confirmed that midfielder is now isolating in line with medical protocols.
