Aussie dad says he was still DRIVING when he was slapped with a huge parking fine: ‘Nothing more than a money grab’

  • The grandfather was waiting in traffic to pick up his grandchildren from school
  • However, as he was waiting, a ticket inspector snapped a photo of his vehicle
  • Bob was later hit with a $75 parking fine, even though he was driving at the time

A shocked grandfather has revealed how he was slapped with a huge parking fine even though he was driving at the time.

Bob, from Prospect in Adelaide, was picking his grandchildren up from school when an inspector snapped a photo of his car.

The grandfather was later hit with a $75 fine but was stunned when he saw the photo of his car that accompanied the notice.

It showed his car while he was still driving it and he said he was only at a standstill because he was waiting for the cars in front to crawl forward to the school.

Bob said he ‘couldn’t believe it’ when the notice came through his letterbox and that it was ‘nothing more than a money grab’.

‘Parking, from my point of view at least, would be turn the car off, lock it up and walk away,’ he told 9 News.

‘Not sitting in the car with the engine running.

‘When you’re in retirement, you’ve got limited budget. It does put a strain on finances.’

Traffic problems are common on the street, with cars banking up and blocking the road.

Bob said he was pulled up in a zone that stated it was for passenger loading, making the fine even more confusing.

He insisted he was following the rules and the fine was ‘nothing more than a money grab’.

Bob appealed the decision but was unsuccessful.

Prospect Council said it had issued 12 fines on Highbury Street since the start of the month for offences including double parking and stopping on or across a driveway.
