Aussie woman shows up Coles and Woolworths by selling fruit for 29cents a kilo:  ‘Real people selling for real prices’

An Aussie fruit and vegetable market is showing up Coles and Woolworths by selling its produce for as little as 29c a kilogram.

Jacqui Morabito took to social media to promote her Sunday prices for her pop-up stall at La Trobe University in Melbourne‘s north, starting with oranges and sweet potatoes at 49c a kilo.

She runs the Morabito Wholesale Fruit & Vegetables Grocery in Thomastown and hosts market stalls across the city.

Aussies were stunned by the prices of her fresh produce.

‘Is this real? In this cost of living crisis?!’ one person said.

‘I hope its not just 49cents just for the video,’ another added.

Ms Morabito, claimed her prices have been even lower.

‘No, we have had in the past 29c bananas and we got more specials this week.’

With up to seven bananas in an average kilogram that means Morabito’s Grocery Market was selling the fruits for 4cents each.

She told Daily Mail Australia she and her family are ‘hard-working people’.

‘[We are] trying to make living and help out locals with every day living costs.

‘Working in the fruit and veg business does not come easy, a lot of hours, lifting heavy boxes.’

Ms Morabito also offered low prices on asparagus, mandarins, watermelons, passion fruit, blueberries and strawberries.

‘Bargain, bargain!,’ said Ms Morabito, who got plenty of love from followers online.

‘Love your energy, awesome to see passion,’ said follower on social media.

‘Love ya attitude mate,’ a second added. 

‘Real people selling for real prices, unlike these corporate companies,’ another claimed.

As the weather warms up and bumper crops hit the shelves, the prices of a lot of fruit lowering.

Bananas especially are going through a cheap phase, as are oranges.

Coles was selling oranges for a low 63c a kilo on Thursday, while they were were 96c a kilo at Woollies and $2 a kilo or 16c per orange at Harris Farm Markets. 

Bananas were on special at both Coles and Woolworths for 81c a kilo, while they are 92c a kg at Harris Farm Markets.

But Coles’ sweet potatoes were $1.80 a kilo, while they are $2.03 at Woollies and $1.29 at Harris Farm.
