Barcelona 5-1 Ferencvaros: Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati score but Gerard Pique is sent off after giving away a second-half penalty meaning he will be BANNED for Juventus next week

  • Lionel Messi put Barcelona ahead from 12 yards after winning a penalty
  • Ansu Fati doubled their lead after being played in cleverly by Frenkie de Jong
  • Philippe Coutinho made it three when he drove an effort into the bottom corner
  • Gerard Pique was sent off when he pulled down Tokmac Nguen in the box
  • Ihor Kharatin scored before Pedri and Dembele made it five for Barcelona

Barcelona played with swagger but also a bad temperament as an otherwise flawless performance was tainted when Gerard Pique was sent off after giving a penalty away.

Lionel Messi got Barcelona off to a flying start when he converted from the penalty spot before Ansu Fati doubled their lead.

Philippe Coutinho made sure of the points when he struck powerfully into the bottom corner.

Three-nil up, it appeared as though nothing could go wrong but then Pique gave away a penalty when he fouled Tokmac Nguen and was subsequently sent off. Ihor Kharatin scored from the spot to give the visitors something to cheer before Barcelona made it 4-1 through Pedri. Ousmane Dembele then added Barcelona’s fifth.
