Benidorm to BAN boozy Brits as it ‘hands out a blacklist of unruly holidaymakers to bars and hotels’

In a bid to crack down on drunk and disorderly behaviour, authorities in Benidorm are set to ban unruly holidaymakers. 

A blacklist of troublemakers will reportedly be sent to bars, restaurants and hotels in the Spanish resort so that they can be easily pinpointed.

It comes after an increasing number of complaints from proprietors over drunken behaviour and last year a popular bar was forced to close due to its rowdy clientele. 

According to the Daily Star, the new blacklist that will be distributed to Benidorm establishments will carry the name, nationality and passport number of any tourist who has caused bother in the past.

Local entertainer Gary Beddow Brown said he welcomed the move. 

He explained: ‘I’m all for a blacklist – people need to be held accountable. Why should local businesses be out of pocket for damage caused by people with no regard for others?’ 

MailOnline Travel has contacted the Spanish tourism board for comment on the new blacklisting measure, but is yet to receive a reply. 

Last year, the Tiki Beach Bar in the Costa Blanca resort was reportedly hit by a string of complaints from locals over anti-social behaviour by foreign tourists.

At the time, Spanish newspaper Diario Informacion revealed that Spain’s Supreme Court ruled the venue must close following a long-running court battle. The venue has since re-opened with no name. 

In 2015, Benidorm followed Ibiza and Magaluf with British police officers deployed on the streets to curb alcohol-fuelled trouble. 

Brits are the largest group of foreign tourists to Benidorm, which was made even more famous by the hit ITV comedy series of the same name.

There is even an district in the resort known as Little England.
