Best job ever? Blackpool theme park is recruiting rollercoaster test rider… but thrillseeker will need a ‘strong stomach’ and ‘head for heights’

  • Blackpool Pleasure Beach want to hire a thrillseeker who can test out ten rides
  • It comes before the amusement park’s reopening on Saturday, March 18

A Blackpool theme park is recruiting a rollercoaster test rider – but the thrillseeker will need a ‘strong stomach’ and a ‘head for heights’.

Bosses at Blackpool Pleasure Beach are hoping to hire a daredevil who can test out ten of its rides before the park’s re-opening on March 18.

The amusement park has numerous rides, including ‘The Big One’, which is the tallest rollercoaster in the UK and the longest in Europe with a 5,497ft track.

The park was also the first in Europe to introduce a fully-inverting steel coaster, Revolution, and is home to the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land.

The job will entail testing numerous rides at the park and reporting ‘fun factors’ such as speed, thrills and excitement levels.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 1.32m tall
  • Have a good head for heights
  • Have a strong stomach
  • Like going upside down

Previous experience of riding rollercoasters and thrill rides is preferred

They will also advise where they think improvements could be made to increase the fun factor on individual rides.

The successful applicant will also have the chance to come up with ideas for future projects and may be able to travel to other European theme parks.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach said it was looking for someone who has an ‘exceptional sense of fun’ to ensure the rides have a ‘necessary thrill factor.’

Anyone planning to apply for the position must be at least 16 years old, at least 1.32m (4ft 3) tall, have a good head for heights and a strong stomach.

The job description adds they must ‘like going upside down’ and previous experience of riding rollercoasters is preferred.

It comes after thrillseekers were left stranded at the top of the Big One ride at the park after it seemingly malfunctioned on its climb up in May last year.

The carriage came to a stop towards the top of the 235ft ride in the seaside town of Blackpool.

People can then be seen walking up the ride – previously known as the Pepsi Max – using the stairs at the side to get access to the carriage.
