Billy Gilmour ‘is seeking a loan move away from Chelsea this summer in order to play regular first-team football’ after featuring just five times under boss Thomas Tuchel – with Scotland midfielder hoping to attract interest by shining at the Euros

Billy Gilmour may have a bright future at Chelsea but the teenage sensation is considering a temporary spell away from the club to bolster his development.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge but finds himself behind N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the Blues midfield pecking order at present.

And according to the Sun, Gilmour is tempted by the possibility of a loan move in order to gain regular first-team football next season.

It is believed that he is hoping he will attract interest following a good tournament with Scotland at the forthcoming European Championship which begin on Friday night.

The Scotland international was close to leaving Chelsea on loan in the January window but was stopped from doing so by manager Thomas Tuchel – who was only appointed at the end of that month.

However, Gilmour only featured five times in all competitions under the German in the latter part of the campaign as he chose the experience of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic ahead of him in central midfield.

As a result, Gilmour is now considering the route taken by the likes of team-mate Mason Mount before by going out on loan before returning to Stamford Bridge and forcing his way into their starting XI.

Last month, Newcastle were linked with a loan move for Gilmour with the Magpies hoping to entice Chelsea by pointing to the successful loan spell that Arsenal’s Joe Willock has just had at St James’ Park this season and the effect they could play on the former’s development.
