‘We get it – no one likes soggy chips and 94 per cent of Aussies we spoke to did not believe that microwaves could deliver on the crunch factor,’ Simplot marketing general manager Suzanne Harman said.

‘Birds Eye Golden Crunch has always offered quality and delicious potato chips, and the new microwave range is no different.

‘We’re proud to deliver a product that combines Australians’ love of hot chips with the desire for fast and convenient snacking – this product really is the whole package.’

The range comes as new research by Birds Eye found Australians consumed an average of 3,756 chips per person a year – making it 10 chips a day or 530 a week.

Half of Aussies admitted to snacking on hot chips at least once a week, with one in 10 eating hot chips on two or more occasions per week.

The study also found we are a picky bunch when it comes to how we enjoy our chips, with 52 per cent believing the perfect chip comes with sauce – tomato, gravy and barbecue sauce.

Around 45 per cent prefer chicken salt, 34 per cent have eaten chips in a burger, while 15 per cent have been guilty of dipping their chips into ice cream.

Despite the differences, what almost all Australians can agree on is that the crunch factor makes the perfect hot chip, with 91 per cent preferring crunchy over soggy.

Birds Eye Golden Crunch Chips are available for sale at Woolworths and Australian independent supermarket stores.
