It’s not every day a former Premier League striker turns up at your weekly 7-a-side game and scores an absolute beauty. But that is exactly what Bobby Zamora did on Thursday night.

The 40-year-old, who played for Brighton, West Ham and Fulham among other teams during his 17-year professional career, was turning out at a local 7-a-side pitch believed to be in Colchester.

An onlooker was recording the action when Zamora, in a West Ham shirt, glided past a defender, brushed off the tackle and then smashed the ball back across goal into the far corner.

Zamora was always known to have a wand of a left foot and his powerful effort left the poor goalkeeper clutching at thin air, leaving those on the touchline in awe.

His effort prompted a huge outburst of celebrations from those watching on but Zamora remained calm and brushed it off.

Rhys Morley, believed to be the defender in the footage who tried to tackle Zamora before he shot, posted the footage on Twitter.

He commented: ‘Not everyday you get skinned by @RobertZamora25 at your local 7s’.

The footage brought back memories of when Brazil legend Kaka worked his magic at Haggerston School in Hoxton last year.

In Reach Out FC's match against Hackney Wick, Kaka picked the ball up on the left hand side

Despite a team-mate demanding for the ball to be cut back, Kaka went it alone and scored a brilliant effort

Kaka also scored a wonderful solo goal in a six-a-side game in London back in February 2020

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder turned out for Reach Out FC against Hackney Wick as part of an adidas’ ‘Rent-a-Pred’ campaign.

Kaka scored a beauty, similar to Zamora’s goal, but the footage went viral because one of his team-mates could be heard demanding the former Brazilian international cut the ball back to him on the edge of the area.

The 39-year-old, the 2007 Ballon d’Or winner, rightly ignored him and opted to shuffle the ball onto his left foot and fire the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net – before jumping into a cage in celebration.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Kaka on the Hoxton playing fields, though, as the former Milan superstar was nutmegged by warehouse worker Jamil Farid, who had arrived at the match direct from a night shift.
