Boxing fans have fumed at Mike Tyson being ‘robbed’ after the former heavyweight king earned a score draw against Roy Jones Jr in his highly-anticipated return to the ring.

‘Iron Mike’ rolled back the years with an impressive performance against former four-weight champion Jones Jr, demonstrating the ferocious explosiveness that left the heavyweight ranks petrified when he was in his prime.

The 54-year-old took the centre of the ring for most of the fight, putting Jones Jr on the back foot as the Brooklyn-born star landed punishing body shots throughout the contest.

However, the judges scored the contest a draw after eight rounds, with both fighters appearing satisfied with the outcome after the event at Staples Center, Los Angeles.

But fans have had their say on the result, with many feeling Tyson was harshly ‘robbed’ of a deserved victory after 15 years out of the ring.

‘A DRAW?!?! Did I watch the same fight as the judges?? Tyson wins no doubt!’ one user wrote on Twitter.

‘Mike Tyson was just robbed live on television,’ another boxing fan posted. ‘Judges gave the match a draw like Roy Jones kidneys not begging for their lives right now,’ another user wrote.

Meanwhile, some fans claimed that the result underlines the flaws in boxing’s scoring system, alleging that the outcome demonstrates ‘corruption’.

‘Can’t believe they robbed Mike Tyson man. Boxing is so corrupt. I might be really done at this point’ another fan vented.

‘No way this fight was a draw. All this boxing s*** is so rigged. No way judges with eyes voted this a draw lol. Rigged. Tyson clearly won,’ one fan said.

Despite the division over the result, Tyson and Jones Jr both confirmed plans to step in the ring again in the future. The bout raised money for various charities, and Tyson said he would like to use the platform again.

‘This is better than fighting for championships,’ Tyson said. ‘We’re humanitarians now. We can do something good for the world. We’ve got to do this again. I would absolutely do this again.’

‘We’ve got to do this again, everybody loves Mike, I love Mike too but it’s something else taking punches from Mike,’ Jones Jr added. ‘I’ll go talk to my family, see how they feel about it and if they want to do it again, we’ll do it again.’
