Bride and groom forced to move out of their Sunshine Coast hotel to make way for NRL teams

Devastated bride and groom are booted from their EIGHT hotel rooms along with their family just three days before their wedding to make way for NRL stars going into hotel quarantine

  • Bridal party booked eight to ten rooms at the Twin Waters Novotel Resort in QLD
  • They were told on Tuesday night the rooms had since been given to NRL teams
  • The bridal party were forced to find new accomodation days out from wedding
  • Bride’s mother Suzie said she and her daughter are now in separate hotels

A bride and groom have been kicked out of their hotel rooms just days before their wedding to make way for NRL teams moving in to quarantine.

The couple will tie the knot this weekend at the Twin Waters Golf Club and had planned to stay at the nearby Novotel resort in Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast.

Their family booked eight to 10 rooms for the bridal party including the bride’s mother Suzie.

But the guests were forced to find their own accommodation after receiving an email from hotel management informing them they would lose their rooms to make way for incoming rugby league players.

Suzie, whose daughter Catherine is getting married, told 4BC Radio‘s Neil Breen her brother was flying up from Melbourne and first saw the email on Tuesday night confirming they had lost their reservation.

‘He rang me saying his accommodation has been cancelled due to Novotel becoming a quarantine hotel,’ she said.

‘I rang them last night and (the hotel) said ”yep”, and that we should be getting an email confirming it soon.

‘I’m out and we’re all out and we had about eight to ten rooms booked.’

Suzie and her daughter raced to find other accommodation to fit their guests and managed to do so after spending hours online.

But now Suzie and her daughter will be staying in separate hotels.

‘Obviously my money is not good enough and the NRL is more important,’ she said.

Suzie will be staying in Marcoola and the wedding will still go ahead at the Twin Waters Golf Club.

The devastated mother said she and her daughter booked the Novotel resort rooms months in advance and there was about 70 guests coming to the wedding.

Twin Waters Novotel Resort said it was unable to comment when approached by Daily Mail Australia.

The teams moving into the resort include the Newcastle Knights, Penrith Panthers, Sydney Roosters, and the Manly Sea Eagles.

Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles addressed the mix up and said ‘obviously there weren’t three empty resorts available’.

He said it was unfortunate some residents would have their plans changed but urged the NRL to try and find suitable accommodation as a replacement.
