A bride-to-be has left her sister shocked and upset with her ‘insane’ demand after asking guests to formally submit a 500-word essay on why they wish to attend.
The 27-year-old sister said the wedding was postponed to February 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and so the bride was forced to cull her guest list.
‘Her original venue has made her cut down on guests because they’re cutting capacity by half,’ the sister wrote in an online Reddit thread, adding: ‘As a result she’s sending out ‘re-invites’ that asks everyone to RSVP again.’
‘In order to figure out who to invite and who to cut, she’s asking all confirmed guests to submit two 250-word “essays” to two questions.’

The two questions included ‘why do you still want to celebrate this day with us?’ and ‘what will attending our wedding mean to you specifically?’
The idea behind the essays is to make it easier for the couple to decide who from the guest list is more ‘enthusiastic’ about wanting to attend their special day.
The sister also said those who don’t write the essays at all will be ‘automatically disqualified’.
The sister said she felt ‘insulted’ by the request and told the bride she will not be writing an essay on why she needs to attend her wedding.
But this response did not sit well with the bride, who said ‘to keep things fair’ she needs to submit a written RSVP otherwise she ‘won’t be saved a spot’ on the day.

‘I said “fine with me”. Then my parents said if I don’t show up, I’m going to be in big trouble with all our relatives so [I should] just write the essays,’ the sister said.
‘I’m already annoyed at the thought of spending thousands and coming home to quarantine, but I will not belt out 500 words on how this is totally my choice.’
She then asked the Reddit forum who is in the wrong during this situation, and many provided creative responses.
‘I would definitely send in two essays. The first would say “Mum/Dad said I have to come or I’m in BIG trouble” over and over again until you hit 250. The second, “I’m your sibling”,’ one person said.
‘[Say] “I’m your sibling and I’ll be the only one who’ll attend because you’re making people write application essays”,’ another said, while one added: ‘Or tell your parents that if they want you to attend so badly, they should write the essays for you.’
One person joked she should repeat the word ‘very’ so she meets the text limit.
‘I want to come to your wedding very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very much,’ they said.
