Bruno Fernandes says his Manchester United team-mate Jesse Lingard has become ‘the best player in the Premier League’ following his move to West Ham.

Lingard’s loan spell at the London Stadium has helped revive his career, having scored nine goals in 13 appearances and secured a surprise return to the England squad.

As a result, Fernandes believes the forward ‘has got his swag back’ and insists everyone at Manchester United is ‘really happy for him’.

The Portugal international told MUTV: ‘If you see Jesse, I think Jesse, at the moment, if you watch the last 10 games, has been top, top, top level.

‘For me, if you watch the last 10 games, he’s been the best player in the Premier League, scoring and assists in every game.

‘Everyone here is really, really happy for him. He has confidence back, he has his swag back, because he is feeling confident. We are really, really happy for what he’s doing.’

Lingard failed to play a single minute for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the first half of the season.

However, since his arrival at West Ham, he has played regularly in the Premier League and helped the Hammers challenge for European qualification.

As a result, David Moyes is eager to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.

But with West Ham recording losses of £65million last season due to the pandemic, the club are unable to commit to the player’s demands for a four-year contract worth in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Therefore, he could return to Manchester United at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Lingard is not to only player to have impressed Fernandes, with the United playmaker crediting Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Ilkay Gundogan and more for their contribution to their respective clubs this season.

Fernandes believes there are a total of nine players that could be in contention for the PFA Player of the Year award.

He said: ‘Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best for me. If we go to the Liverpool squad, for example, I think [Mohamed] Salah, if you say he’s playing well or not, he’s still scoring goals’.

‘Harry Kane is still doing really well in the Tottenham team, for example. I think Raphinha of Leeds is doing very well. It’s difficult to choose one.

‘[Ilkay] Gundogan, from the half of the season from December, started doing really well. Ruben Dias has come from Benfica and been consistent since he arrived [at Manchester City].

‘I really like Mason Mount – he’s been consistent from the beginning of the season. [Jack] Grealish, before his injuries, was being really, really good.

‘I think [Patrick] Bamford from Leeds is also scoring a lot of goals, 14 I think this season already [now 15 in the Premier League], which is really good.’
