‘I never thought I’d travel again’: Captain Tom, 100, says he has ticked ‘item off his bucket list’ after British Airways offer him free flight to Barbados for him and his family

Captain Sir Tom Moore and his family have jetted off to Barbados after British Airways offered him free flight.
The centenarian smiled as he sat in a plane seat emblazoned with his name in a picture shared to his official Twitter page as he revealed he has ticked an item ‘off his bucket list’.
Sir Tom raised millions for the NHS at the height of the coronavirus pandemic by walking laps of his garden.
His efforts earned him a Knighthood and a promotion to honorary Colonel, and he was last month named GQ’s Inspiration of the Year 2020.

Sir Tom said the support he has been shown has given him ‘renewed energy’ ahead of his family holiday which will see him travel eight-and-a-half hours to the sunny Caribbean island.
He said: ‘I never thought that, at the age of 100, I would get to travel again. I’m so grateful to everyone who has made this possible.
‘The support I have been shown in 2020 has given me renewed energy and today I get to tick something off my bucket list.’

It has not been revealed which family members are joining Sir Tom on the trip.
The 100-year-old lives with his daughter Hannah – who he shares with late wife Pamela – and her husband Colin Ingram.
His grandchildren Benji and Georgia also live in the family home in Bedfordshire.
BA’s official Twitter account read: ‘We are honoured to be flying you and your family Captain Sir Tom, to one of our favourite destinations.’

In an interview with the magazine , Sir Tom opened up about his 20-year first marriage, his beloved late wife’s battle with dementia, and how he wants to be there for ‘lonely people in need of help’
He told the magazine: ‘Taking her… she didn’t really know what we were doing. And I felt… I felt I was letting her down.
‘I realise it was the best that could be done. I realise my effort wasn’t enough.’
The national treasure also joked about installing two stair lifts at his home and how he enjoys ‘lots of sugar’ on his porridge every morning, ‘because cholesterol is the least of his worries at 100.’
Sir Tom raised more than £32million for the NHS by walking laps of his Bedfordshire garden in April.
He initially aimed to raise £1,000 but broke two Guinness World Records and scored a Number One single in the process.
He lead the nation with his upbeat phrase, ‘Tomorrow will be a good day’, and has since given more than 700 media interviews.
Speaking about his personal life, Sir Tom told GQ about his unconsummated marriage to first wife Ethel and how he became a father in his forties.
