CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP: Wycombe earn first Championship point as Chairboys pick up deserved point at home to Watford… while Barnsley thrash 10-man QPR at Oakwell

  • Wycombe picked up their first Championship point with a 1-1 draw with Watford 
  • The Hornets were replaced in the top two by Swansea, who won 2-0 versus Stoke
  • Barnsley beat 10-man QPR 3-0 at Oakwell to leapfrog the Londoners in mid-table
  • Middlesbrough moved up to seventh as two late goals sealed 2-0 over Coventry

Wycombe Wanderers picked up their first Championship point with a 1-1 draw over high-flying Watford at Adams Park.  

Adebayo Akinfenwa had two goalbound shots saved by Ben Foster in the first-half yet Ismaila Sarr’s header at the back post from Kiko Femenia’s cross put the Hornets in front after the interval.

But Gareth Ainsworth’s side got a deserved equaliser as Anthony Stewart headed home Joe Jacobson’s cross with just over 20 minutes to go.

Swansea City leapfrogged the Hornets into the top two for 24 hours at least with a 2-0 win over Stoke City.  

Jay Fulton scored a superb outside-of-the-boot finish from inside the area after a goalmouth scramble to give Steve Cooper’s side a first-half lead. 

Kasey Palmer then headed in an all-important second goal past Angus Gunn with three minutes to go to seal an important victory for the Swans.

Meanwhile, Barnsley jumped up the Championship table and leapfrogged QPR with a 3-0 win over the west Londoners at Oakwell.

Cauley Woodrow netted a penalty mid-way through the first-half after the Barnsley forward was felled by defender Rob Dickie, who was sent off for the challenge. 

Barnsley’s lead was doubled ten minutes later when Conor Chaplin fired in at the near post from Clark Oduor’s cut-back. 

R’s defender Yoann Barbet netted an own goal in the second-half after being put under pressure from Woodrow to seal the points for the home side.

Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough moved level on points with the play-off spots on Tuesday night with a last-gasp 2-0 over newly-promoted Coventry City. 

Britt Assombalonga finished with nine minutes to go following Sam Morsy’s defence-splitting pass to ease the nerves at the Riverside Stadium. 

As Coventry pushed for an equaliser, Djed Spence hit the visitors on the break and rounded Marko Marosi to slot home in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
