Christian Pulisic has admitted he would like to feature for USA at this summer’s delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo, which would interrupt his preparations ahead of next season for Chelsea.

The football tournament in Japan runs from 21 July to 7 August, which would coincide with pre-season training and friendlies for Premier League clubs.

‘It is something I’ve thought about and that I’ve wanted to play in,’ Pulisic said in a press conference ahead of USA’s fixtures against Jamaica and Northern Ireland during this international break.

‘Obviously I can’t control exactly what goes on and what is best for me at the time and the team at the time, I can’t say.

‘But it is something that I would like to play in.’

Minutes on the pitch has been an issue for the former Borussia Dortmund star since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in place of Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge in January.

The 22-year-old is yet to complete 90 minutes in a Premier League game for the German boss, and has seen just 202 minutes of action in the top-flight since Tuchel’s arrival.

He has yet to score under the German and has recorded just two assists, and admitted it had been a testing period for him.

The American admitted it mirrors the situation of when he first joined the club from Dortmund in 2019 for £58million, and is striving to ‘earn minutes’ under his new manager.

‘It hasn’t been easy,’ he added.

‘I was in a similar situation when I first came to Chelsea. I had to earn my way to get some minutes. I’m trying to do the same thing now.’
