Chester racegoers kick off the weekend early as they toast the last day with pints

Revellers at Chester Races were determined to go out with a bang today, despite the inclement weather.

It’s the final day of the annual Boodles May Festival, billed as the ‘pinnacle of Chester’s social calendar’, and attendees were determined to put their best foot forward.

Luckily, plenty had brought their brollies to shelter from the showers, while others had to cover their heads with shawls.

Many of the women who attended wore bright and colourful outfits – with hats or headpieces to finish off their outfits.

But many looked concerned that the bad weather would would put a dampener on their day of boozing and betting.

The event culminates today with the highest profile race, the Chester Cup – which brings in huge crowds and the highest cash prize, a generous £150,000.

This stylish monochrome pair opted for outfits that complimented each other – with one sporting a short white mini dress and red accessories and the other going for a backless black jumpsuit

Each stand at Chester Racecourse adheres to a specific dress code policy. If you’re in the Chester Members and Private Hospitality area, there is a ‘strictly smart’ style guide, with ladies encouraged to don longer length skirts and dresses, chic trousersuits and statement hats.

The Winning Post and County Long Room and Concourse enclosures suggest a ‘dress to impress’ mentality, recommending clutch bags, fascinators and mix-and-match colour schemes.

The Tattersalls enclosure urges guests to ‘make a statement’ with their outfits, listing jumpsuits and tailored shorts, maxi dresses and headbands and hair accessories as strong choices.

The most casual stands are the Dee and Open Course, where relaxed summer dresses, shorts and T-shirts and sunglasses are welcomed.
