Chris Wilder’s future at Sheffield United is being threatened by disagreements with the club’s owners over key issues such as recruitment and the state of the training ground.

Blades manager Wilder — who led the club to the Premier League from the wilderness of League One — revealed this week that he does not know if he will stay at Bramall Lane.

Wilder has publicly called on owner Prince Abdullah to back him.

Chris Wilder’s future as Sheffield United boss is under threat and an exit may be on the cards

The owner wants a director of football to take control of recruitment, having been disappointed with Wilder’s work in the transfer market.

Wilder would like to stay at his boyhood club beyond this season.

He believes he can bring them straight back up if he is supported by funds and facilities. But at the moment that appears highly unlikely.

After last season’s impressive 12th placed finish, Wilder spent north of £50million in the summer as his side looked to build upon their progress.

A £23.5million move was sanctioned for Liverpool’s unproven youngster Rhian Brewster, while goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was brought back to the club for a fee in the region of £18m.

The Blades currently find themselves rock bottom of the top flight on 14 points from 27 matches.

Under Wilder’s command points have been taken from the likes of Manchester United, though defeats against fellow strugglers have cost the side dearly.

On Wednesday evening the Blades pulled off a pivotal 1-0 victory over Aston Villa despite having a man sent off, but still find themselves some 12-points from safety as things currently stand.
