Conor McGregor shared a clip of a ‘knee to the eye socket’ he landed on Khabib Nurmagomedov during his 2018 defeat by the Russian.

In the lead up to Khabib’s huge UFC 254 showdown with Justin Gaethje, McGregor has been active on social media, talking about his infamous fight against the Russian which ended in a mass brawl.

Having previously analysed the fight to fans on Twitter and claimed he was winning until the submission, McGregor has now posted a clip of an illegal knee he executed from his back.

He wrote: ‘The knee into the eye socket was illegal yes, from this position. A beauty tho. Never before seen shot. Like many of my shots.

‘I use the mount defence leg as a spring board, loading the knee below it. Release and straight to the eye socket. Smashed it in! Hey Dana.’

Khabib complained about the shot to the referee at the time and McGregor was warned as a knee to the head of a grounded opponent is not permitted.

The undefeated wrestler repeatedly took McGregor down in the fight and landed some heavy ground and pound, particularly in round two.

But McGregor asserts that he also did damage from the ground, landing elbows and strikes to the head, despite being in the inferior position.

On Wednesday the Dubliner tweeted: ‘On the mula! Round 1’s mine. Out struck 3-1. Elbow, knees, clatters! He held on.

‘Two is his but I land multiple knees. One from standing after the overhand, and one from bottom into the eye socket at kimura attempt. Not a scratch end of round also. I won round three, and four until the trip.’

No doubt McGregor will be a keen observer on Saturday night with Khabib taking on arguably his greatest challenge to date against Justin Gaethje.

The ‘Notorious’ is set to face Dustin Poirier in January next year in his first fight for a year, a match-up Dana White wants to happen at lightweight rather than welterweight.

‘I’m not putting on a freaking multi-million dollar fight at a catch weight that means nothing,’ he said.

‘That fight means nothing at 170. Neither one of those two are ranked at 170 pounds and it doesn’t do anything in the [155] pound division if either one of them win cause they’re fighting at 170. It literally makes no sense.’
