Damok entrusts moto racing future in mentor Zulfahmi’s hands

SEPANG: National Moto3 rider Syarifuddin Azman (pix) has left his future in the 2024 MotoGP World Championship in his mentor, Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin’s hands.

The 22-year-old rider, who is better known as Damok, said he was ready to join any racing team following MT Helmets-MSi’s decision not to retain him in the next season.

“I’m still waiting for (Muhammad) Zulfahmi to personally decide where I should be headed, and hope to be able to continue next year.

“Personally, I don’t mind any team. I leave all that to him (Zulfahmi), to find a place for me,” he told reporters after the Moto3 class second free training session at the Sepang International Circuit here today.

Zulfahmi had revealed MT Helmets-MSI’s plan to drop Damok in September, roughly a year after the team announced Damok’s riding partnership with Brazillian Diogo Moreira in Moto3 on Oct 21 last year.

On his current lacklustre performance, Damok admitted he needed more time to get used to the KTM machine he is currently using.

“Of course I want to spring a surprise, especially when so many people have high hopes on me in my debut session in Moto3,” he said, after ending the first free training session in 23rd place with a time of 2 minutes and 14.258 seconds and 28th place with a time of 2:14.598s in the second free training session today. –Bernama
