DEMOCRAT demands Biden show ‘leadership’ to deal with the migrant crisis: ‘Squad’ member bashes Joe for failing to deal with the dire situation in New York

  • ‘Here’s the thing: Democrats are looking bad right now in New York state,’ the Squad member said

New York Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman implored Joe Biden to help with the migrant crisis in his state, demanding the president step up and show ‘leadership.’

‘We need leadership, period. We need that leadership right here in New York State, because you know, New York State is struggling,’ Bowman told reporters Tuesday.

New York City is struggling, we’re struggling to provide housing and all the support that the migrants need,’ the Squad member went on. ‘Here’s the thing: Democrats are looking bad right now in New York state and that’s unacceptable when we need at least four seats to take back the House. So hopefully President Biden is listening.’

Republicans currently hold control of the lower chamber 222-212, thanks in large part to a slew of victories in liberal New York state.

Big Apple Mayor Eric Adams said that some 95,000 migrants have arrived in the city since last spring, asking for ‘shelter, food, services and more.’

The mayor’s office said it has opened up 194 sites, including 13 large-scale humanitarian relief centers, to accomodate the influx. ‘We have simply run out of space for adult migrants, yet are still receiving hundreds of new migrants daily.’

Migrants slept outside on the streets for days in front of New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel, hoping to get into the jam-packed makeshift processing center after coming to the area on buses from the south.

Adams, who has bared the brunt of criticism over the matter, told CBS News last week ‘we’re not hearing enough’ from federal officials to assist with the crisis.

‘We need help, and it’s not going to get any better. From this moment on, it’s downhill. There is no more room,’ Adams said last week.

New York, a sanctuary city that shields migrants from deportation, has a legal obligation to offer shelter to anyone who wants it.

GOP governors like Texas’ Greg Abbott have been shipping migrants up to liberal enclaves like New York to put their lax migrant policies to the test.

Last month 54 New York City Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Biden begging him to send assistance for the migrants. The lawmakers asked Biden to declare a federal state of emergency, speed up work authorizations and fix the flow of migration at the border.

The lawmakers asked the president to ‘to fairly distribute newcomers across the country’ by better screening asylum claims and establishing a plan for each arriving migrant.

‘Our City is experiencing an unprecedented migrant influx, with a surge of asylum seekers arriving here in numbers never seen before in history,’ they wrote in a letter. ‘We take pride in New York being a beacon of hope for immigrants, but the influx of migrants is so great that the City is running out of resources.’
