Donald Trump congratulates British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on his huge election win

Donald Trump has appeared to congratulate his friend and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on his huge election win.

‘Looking like a big win for Boris in the U.K.!’ Trump tweeted late Thursday night.

Trump’s tweet came soon after Johnson said it looked like his Conservative Party had won ‘a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done’ in the country’s general election.

Donald Trump has appeared to congratulate British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on his huge election win, tweeting on Thursday night: ‘Looking like a big win for Boris in the U.K.!’

His Conservative Party appeared to be on course to win a solid majority of seats in Britain’s Parliament – a decisive outcome to a Brexit-dominated election that should allow Johnson to fulfill his plan to take the U.K. out of the European Union next month.

Trump’s message came just days after Johnson admitted he had not spoke to the U.S. President since the ‘gossipgate’ row at this month’s NATO summit.

Footage emerged of Johnson with Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron at a NATO reception during which the trio appeared to be gossiping about an impromptu 45-minute press conference held by Trump.

Trudeau joked that officials’ ‘jaws hit the floor’ at the performance.

The video drew a furious response from Trump who branded the Canadian PM ‘two-faced’ – but he stopped short of criticizing Johnson.

In the lead up to the UK election, Johnson appeared to be trying to minimize his public contact with Trump amid fears that ties to him could be an electoral liability.
