Dozens of residents in Woodridge near Brisbane in lockdown after a man threatened to hurt himself

Four Brisbane suburban streets are locked down by cops as a man barricades himself in a home and threatens to harm himself

  • Police called to Smith Road, Woodridge, south of Brisbane on Tuesday morning 
  • There were reports a man was threatening to harm himself inside a home  
  • An emergency declaration has been made and several streets are in lockdown 

Dozens of residents are in lockdown and specialist police are patrolling the streets after a man threatened to harm himself inside a home.

Queensland Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act after being called to a house on Smith Road at Woodridge, south of Brisbane, about 11:25am on Tuesday. 

The declaration zone includes Smith Road, Wentworth Street, Macquarie Street, Blaxland Street and Ewing Road.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area while police, including the Specialist Emergency Response Team, remain on scene. 

‘I live on Smith Road and just had heavily armed police came (to) knock on our door and tell us to go to the back rooms of our home,’ one resident posted on Facebook. 

Harris Fields State School, which is located on Smith Road but just outside the exclusion zone, advised parents of students who normally walk through streets subject to the lockdown to collect their children early.    

‘Police incident on Smith Road between Wentworth Street and Ewing Road where traffic and pedestrians will not be able to travel through,’ the school wrote.  

‘If your child walks this route, please collect your child from the school. To avoid traffic congestion at 2:30pm, you may wish to collect your child/ren early from the office.’
