Elle Macpherson reveals she ‘got sober’ after reaching age 40

Elle Macpherson reveals she ‘got sober’ after reaching her milestone 40th birthday and describes the decade as a time of ‘introspection’

She’s one of the most glamorous and well-known supermodels in the world.

And now Elle Macpherson, 56, has reflected on her 40s, while talking to Australian fashion designer Pip Edwards, who recently marked the milestone birthday.

The model, who was nicknamed ‘The Body’ by Time magazine in 1989, told Gritty Pretty magazine: ‘It’s funny, 40 is such a introspective year.’

‘I actually got sober when I was 40,’ she said.

Elle revealed while it may have been milestone, she didn’t to mark the occasion with a lavish party or anything fancy.

Instead, she went on a safari to have an ‘experience’ and decided to get sober.

‘I felt like I wanted to spend time in introspection,’ she continued.

P.E. Nation founder Pip explained she had a similar experience this year.

Pip admitted she was planning to throw a massive boozy lunch at Catalina in Sydney’s Rose Bay for her 40th birthday, but coronavirus stuck.

‘I’d lived such a big life and it really forced me to think and to regroup and reflect. If I wasn’t in isolation, I might not have covered some really important ground before hitting 40,’ Pip told the model.

‘I stopped drinking and taking any drugs – even aspirin – and I began really cleaning out my system,’ she said.

Previously speaking to Ocean Drive magazine, Elle said she started to focus on health and wellness in her 40s.

‘Beauty at every age is such a boring cliché, but beauty is not just reserved for youth,’ she said.

‘There’s a big movement that supports that. I didn’t feel any kind of milestone pressure turning 50 at all, perhaps because I’ve been preparing for this stage of my life for a long time.’

‘By the time I hit 50, I didn’t feel any sort of plateau physically… It wasn’t like, Oh my gosh, I’d better get myself together before I turn 50; it was more like I was reborn.’
