Emotional moment sausage dog reunites with owners after getting lost in New South Wales bushfire

Emotional moment a sausage dog named Wilbur is reunited with his owners after he became lost in a raging bushfire

  • Fire crews found Wilbur on a fire trail as bushfires closed in around him
  • They rescued dog and reunited him with his owner on Thursday morning
  • Sadly Wilbur’s brother, a 10-year-old beagle named Olly, is still lost 

Fire crews rescued a sausage dog from death after finding him lost and alone as a raging bushfire closed in around him. 

Wilbur the sausage dog was found by RFS firefighters on Wednesday while they moved down a fire trail near Termeil in south east New South Wales. 

The firefighters immediately rescued Wilbur and took him back to their home base at Burrill Lake, Nine News reported.

Sadly Wilbur’s ‘brother’, a 10-year-old beagle named Olly, is still lost in the bushfire zone.

RFS crews in the area are still searching for the lost beagle.  

After the crew rescued Wilbur a call was put out in an attempt to track down his owner.

On Thursday morning Wilbur was reunited with his owner Paul who thanked the firefighters for saving his mate.   

Meanwhile the Currowan fire has been downgraded to ‘watch and act’ as it continues to move towards the coast.

The Princes Highway has been closed between Burrill Lake and the Kings Highway turnoff and residents are urged to check traffic reports before leaving the area.
