Families boost their income during the cost-of-living crisis by using technology to earn up to £1,000 extra a year

Families are using technology to earn an extra £1,000 a year to help boost their income during the cost-of-living crisis.

Research conducted by mobile network provider EE has revealed the average household generates £910 a year through apps and technology to earn extra cash.

Half of UK households said they have used innovative ways to help them with the rising cost of living, with the most popular being reviewing TV shows and doing market research, which is done by more than ten per cent of respondents.

Following the surge in dog ownership during the pandemic, households are now finding pets can provide an extra income, with four per cent ‘renting’ out their dogs to lonely or stressed people to walk.

Other ways people are earning cash through using their phones include selling sunset photos, getting paid to reach milestones in online games, and renting out driveways and spare rooms

The research found that people in Glasgow are most likely to practise ‘techonomics’, followed by those in Birmingham and London.

Smartphone users are also selling and buying clothes through apps to make an extra income.
