Family ‘sneak out of pub’s back door’ after racking up £270 bill on lobster, steak and drinks

Shocking moment family of six ‘sneak out of pub’s back door and flee’ after racking up £270 bill on lobster, steak and drinks

  •  A group have been caught dining-and-dashing on CCTV footage at a pub
  • The owner of the family-run pub is begging the group of six to pay for the meal
  • She says not paying would hurt pub and make it hard to keep prices reasonable

A group have been caught dining-and-dashing on CCTV footage – leaving a family-run pub desperately chasing the missing £270 payment.

Emma Lee, who owns The Sutton Arms in Faceby, North Yorkshire, shared a public appeal urging the table of six to do the right thing and pay for their expensive meal.

The 38-year-old said: ‘We are only in a small village so you soon recognise people that have been in before. They’ve been in the pub before but this time they decided they didn’t want to pay.’

The table was booked under what is presumably the family’s surname, but Ms Lee does not have any further details as to the group’s identity.

They pre-ordered three lobsters, three fillet steaks and spent over £70 at the bar before skipping out on the tab.

Ms Lee said she had the opportunity to sell the lobsters to other costumers but held off for the benefit of the Finney family, who had called in advance.

‘We normally get five lobsters so that’s ten portions but they sell out really quick,’ she told The Sun. ‘Instead of putting all our steaks and lobsters and all those prices up, we’ve tried to keep it down and have taken a bit of a knock ourselves and then something like this happen and it’s just a bit of a nightmare.’

The mother-of-five said the dine-and-dash would hurt the family-run pub.

‘Everything’s really expensive,’ she said. ‘Instead of putting all our steaks and lobsters and all those prices up, we’ve tried to keep it down and have taken a bit of a knock ourselves and then something like this happen and it’s just a bit of a nightmare.’

CCTV footage of the family shows one woman, wearing pink activewear, pacing out the front of the pub as she waits for a man to join her.

The group appeared to leave in smaller pairs so as not to alert suspicion from staff

The pair then disappear together as another young man and woman hurriedly walk out of the venue.

Ms Lee said her staff weren’t particularly concerned at the time as one of the women reportedly pretended she was receiving a call.

She is now urging the customers to even put the money through her letterbox to right their mistake.

She said if there’s no effort to rectify the situation by Monday, she’ll be given no choice but to ‘take the matter further’.

‘We are a small family run pub trying out hardest in these tough times for hospitality, Mistakes happen so hopefully this can be sorted before we have to take it further,’ she said.

‘Most customers are good so it is just a shame that these things would happen.’
