  • While her wedding dress was ruined, Jessa was thrilled with the calf’s arrival

A cow has interrupted an Australian farming couple’s wedding by giving birth to her heifer calf during the packed reception of 100 people.

Jessa Laws, 32, and her now husband Ben, 38, got married on Saturday April 24 on their farm in Gorae near Portland, Victoria.

Jessa told Daily Mail Australia her wedding dress was ruined but deemed it to be ‘inconsequential’ compared to the excitement of the newborn calf.

‘We were expecting the birth as she was a few days overdue and a few of our farmer guests helped keep an eye on her throughout the day,’ she said.

The calf arrived at 7pm during the reception in front of several guests soon after the final wedding speech.

The ‘unforgettable experience’ shocked guests, but Jessa said it was ‘typical’ for the cow, named Jacot Drama, to cause a commotion at inconvenient times.

‘Earlier we joked and said she’s definitely going to give birth on our wedding day,’ she said.

‘On the night a friend came and told me there’s two feet showing.’

Jessa said around seven dairy farmers helped deliver the calf and ensured ‘everything was okay’ – as she just missed the birth.

‘It was a difficult birth because the calf was huge, but it was a safe delivery,’ she said.

At the time her husband Ben was inside the house when a friend told him the news.

‘I just laughed and said “Jessa’s in the mud, isn’t she?”,’ Ben said and didn’t expect anything other.

The new addition to the farm was later named Destiny.

Jessa said cows are the ‘foundation’ of her a Ben’s relationship, as they first met in a pub three years ago talking about cows.

‘After the ceremony, as people were throwing confetti, our song of choice was “Cows Around” by Corb Lund, which we thought was very fitting,’ she said.

‘Memories are worth far more than a wedding dress is – the calf was worth getting in the mud,’ she said.

‘It will definitely be a wedding people will be talking about with their families for a long time to come.’
