Femail reveals Conde Nast’s upcoming trends for this summer

Fashionistas are always looking to the future to anticipate the trends they should be snapping up, but it turns out that Summer 2019’s hottest styles may already have graced your wardrobe at some point in the past.

This year, the summer wardrobe is colourful and fun, full of old school accessories re-imagined with a modern twist, such as bucket hats, which were popular in the ’90s.

According to Condé Nast Traveller, the style-conscious will be sporting swimwear adorned with bows and ribbons this summer, and hitting the beach in retro tie dye t-shirts.

And while belt bags were once considered an accessory best left behind in the ’90s, they’ve had a designer makeover and are now oversized and adorned with the famous monograms of Gucci or Louis Vuitton.

The accessory: Belt Bags

Bumbags? Fanny packs? Either way, they’re everywhere. Wear them slung on one shoulder or buckled over a jacket to mainline the street-style tone.

The swimsuit: Bows, ties and ribbons all over

Knotted details were twisted through the most recent catwalks, from Emilia Wickstead’s exaggerated Eighties-inspired hair accessories and Miu Miu’s punky shoulder embellishments to the dramatic, trailing neckties seen at Erdem.

And now swimwear has jumped on board. With ribbon straps and lace-up elements, the prettiest pieces are all tied up with a bow.

For a less whimsical alternative, opt for statement straps and asymmetric designs in contrasting colours, or try ties with buckles for a sportier take.

The Micro Trend: Swimcaps

The tides have turned. Once the symbol of aqua aerobics, swimming caps first appeared last season at Valentino as bonnets in matching fabrics to the clothes.

They were bejewelled and adorned with veils on the Christian Dior Spring Summer 2019 fashion show.

The hat: Bucket

The shape has evolved beyond its Britpop status and the bucket’s tomboy swagger shows no sign of stopping, with Dior pairing one with every look for next season.

The Print: Tie dye

Leave any associations with Woodstock or grunge on the shore; the season’s big trend is an elevated interpretation of the staple surfer pattern.

The blot-dyed swimsuits by Proenza Schouler have already become cult hits, while Prada’s acid-splashed accessories and Chloé’s sunset-ombré designs have made everyone want to head to Venice Beach.
