A couple who appeared on Channel 4’s First Dates have delighted fans by announcing their engagements.
The show’s Twitter account today made the happy announcement that Elan Cohen, 28, from Manchester and Cindy Thompson, 27, from Yorkshire, who met on the show in April 2017 are set to tie the knot.
The couple instantly bonded as they opened up about family difficulties, with Cindy telling Elan that her mother had been diagnosed with a terrminal brain tumour, while he spoke about his own mum’s battle with depression.
Cindy’s mother sadly passed away in June 2018, but Cindy previously told MailOnline that Angela had ‘died happy’, knowing her daughter had found love.

Both First Dates participants were up for a second date after spending time together on the show, and followed up with drinks in Manchester soon after
In the clip announcing their big news, Cindy showed off her ring and said: ‘We’re absolutely on cloud nine.’
Host Fred Sireix added his good wishes, saying: ‘Congratulations guys, well done,’
Meanwhile, barman Merlin Griffith told them: ‘Congratulations on your engagement. Bloody fantastic news!’

First Date waitress Laura Tott also wished the couple well, adding she was happy for them in the video message
Laura Tott, who waitresses on the show added: ‘Congratulation! So happy for you both.
Fans of the show were delighted with the news and congratulated Elan and Cindy as well.
‘They were so nice together on their first date,’ wrote one.
‘Gorgeous couple,’ commented another.
‘Woo, next is a First Dates’ baby,’ joked another.

Cindy was paired with Elan out of 350,000 names in the show’s database.
‘As soon as Elan walked in, I knew he was my type looks-wise – dark, handsome and lovely teeth,’ said Cindy.
‘And his personality more than matched his looks – he was easy to talk to and so understanding and compassionate when I told him about my mum.
‘Then he invited me to Manchester the following weekend and that was it really.

Fans of the show were quick to congratulate the couple and Laura Tott also congratulated them again in a short message
‘He met my mum and dad on Boxing Day, and Mum gave him her seal of approval straight away.’
‘She could see how devoted Elan was and I know that was a comfort for her. We had lots of heart-to-hearts as we knew our time together was short and I told her that Elan was definitely “The One”.’
Cindy also revealed that her mother made Elan promise to take care of her Cindy and to not ‘let her down.’

‘When they were choosing a date for me, I was told they had 350,000 names on their database, so it’s amazing they found my soul mate!’ she said.
