Florida rescinds scholarship offer to white QB after he rapped the n-word on Twitter

University of Florida rescinds scholarship offer to highly recruited white quarterback after he rapped the n-word on Twitter… as the four-star prospect begins search for new school

A highly recruited quarterback has lost his scholarship offer from the University of Florida after posting a video of himself rapping the n-word on social media.

Marcus Stokes, who is white, is no longer a member of the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class after the controversial Twitter post. The two-second clip shows Stokes singing: ‘Welcome back n*****.’

He has since announced that he is opening his recruitment again after his scholarship offer from Florida was rescinded.

‘I was in my car listening to rap music, rapping along to the words and posted a video of it on social media,’ he said in a social media post. ‘I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say.

‘It was hurtful and offensive to many people, and regret that. I fully accept the consequences for my actions, and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football.

‘My intention was never to hurt anybody and I recognize that even when going along with a song, my words still carry a lot of weight. I will strive to be better and to become the best version of myself both on and off the field. I know that learning from my mistakes is a first important step.’

Stokes committed to Florida in July after reneging on a commitment to Penn State.

He was ranked 14th at his position by 247 Sport, which also published a scouting report of the Ponte Verde (Florida) senior.

‘NFL ceiling given competitive edge and natural feel for the position, but must keep progressing and find ways to limit mistakes,’ read the profile.

The Gators’ 2023 recruiting class now has 22 commitments. Fortunately for the Gators, top-20 quarterback Jaden Rashada flipped his commitment from Miami to Florida earlier this month.
