Floyd Mayweather ‘WON’T fight in 2020 after two family deaths’

Floyd Mayweather ‘WON’T fight in 2020 after two tragic family deaths’… putting an end to speculation he would step back into the ring to face Conor McGregor or Manny Pacquiao

  • Floyd Mayweather has suffered two losses in his family in recent weeks
  • His uncle Roger died at 58 and his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris also passed away
  • Mayweather has been crushed by events and will not return in 2020, reports say
  • He was linked with rematches against Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather‘s return to the ring looks unlikely after the star was overwhelmed by two crushing losses in his family.

Mayweather’s ex-girlfriend Josie Harris, who is the mother of his three children, was found dead in her car last week, while his uncle Roger – who trained his nephew for 12 years – passed away at the age of 58 on Wednesday.

The undefeated fighter had been teasing a comeback after last facing Conor McGregor in a mega fight in 2017, with rumours that he could be set to clash against the Irishman again this year.

Another huge rematch against Manny Pacquiao had also been mooted, but TMZ report that Mayweather will put those ambitions on the backburner as he comes to terms with his grief.

Harris was found dead in outside her home in Valencia, Los Angeles County, on March 10, with the pair sharing a tense relationship after dating between 1995 and 2010.

At the end of their time together Mayweather was convicted of domestic violence against her and served two months in prison.

‘I was a battered woman,’ Harris said in 2014. ‘I felt embarrassed about saying I was a battered woman. I felt shame. I felt like it was my fault. What did I do? I didn’t understand what a battered woman was at that time.

But Mayweather, who has never lost in 50 fights, claimed in 2015 that the violence was merely him trying to restrain Harris because she was on drugs – an accusation Harris denied. In the wake of her death he posted a series of pictures of himself with her on Instagram, including one with the caption ‘my baby’.

His second loss in as many weeks was also devastating as he mourned for his uncle Roger, who played a huge role in his career. He was in his corner for 34 of his fights to help him remain unbeaten and conquer the divisions.

‘My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring,’ Mayweather Jr said after his death.

‘Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace. Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world.

‘It is a terrible loss for all of us. We are thankful for all the love and well-wishes we have already received as word traveled about Roger’s passing.

‘It helps me to see that he was able to touch so many people through his life in boxing, because he gave so much to the sport, which was his first and longtime love.’

If that wasn’t already enough for Mayweather, he is also reportedly still feeling low after his friend and former basketball star Kobe Bryant passed away in January.

Earlier this year ‘money’ had fuelled anticipation for a huge fight in 2020 by posting a a picture of himself next to McGregor on Instagram, which said ‘Mayweather McGregor 2, 2020.

He had also teased a possible bout with UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, but it appears that fans will have to wait a little longer for those fights to come to fruition.
