He then lifted the snake and placed it carefully into some long grass beside the road.

Staker was an accomplished defender who played 110 games for West Coast and 50 for Brisbane, and is currently an assistant coach of the Lions’ women’s team.

He was best known for being on the receiving end of a knockout punch by former Sydney forward Barry Hall in footage that went viral worldwide.

Hall received a hefty seven-game suspension for the incident, and apologized to Staker when they finally buried the hatchet years later in a joint TV interview.

WHAT IS A CARPET PYTHON?

Carpet pythons are medium sized pythons that can grow up to 3.6m in length.

The average adult carpet python is 2.5m long and is the largest snake found in south-east Queensland.

They typically eat a variety of birds and mammals and is non-venomous to humans.

However a bite to a human by a carpet python can still cause damage, including deep puncture wounds.

Typically carpet pythons like to live in above ground areas such as roofs or wall cavities.

However they have also been found in shrubbery.
