Former Starbucks employee admits he used to give DECAF to unsuspecting customers who were rude to him – or pronounced ‘croissant’ with a French accent

  • TikTok user @dolltin admitted in a viral video that when he worked at a Starbucks in Florida five years ago, he would swap customers’ orders with decaf
  • He said he’d do it when they were rude but also just because he ‘felt like it’
  • He also boasted that he’d punish customers with decaf if they pronounced the word ‘croissant’ like a French person would
  • Some commenters have blasted him for the behavior, though he has insisted that anyone who is ‘mad’ is ‘stupid’

A former Starbucks employee from Florida has infuriated TikTok users by admitting that he used to give decaf coffee to unsuspecting customers — just because he felt like it.

The ex-barista, who goes by @dolltin on TikTok, boasted that when he worked at Starbucks five years ago, he’d punish rude customers by swapping their drink orders with decaf.

But he didn’t stop there — he’d also give decaf to customers just because he ‘felt like it’ or if he was annoyed with the way they pronounced the word ‘croissant.’

The controversy kicked off with a video from another barista, who filmed herself laughing under the words ‘giving rude customers decaf espresso to start their day.’

Her video was reportedly well-received before it was deleted, but when @dolltin stitched it with his own video, things took a turn.

He said it was ‘100 per cent true’ that baristas will switch in decaf for customers who are rude —  but he did worse than that.

‘I worked at Starbucks for two years. I decaf-ed so many rude people. I would decaf people just if I felt like it,’ he said.

He would also punish those who annoyed him, like by pronouncing ‘croissant’ as a French person would.

‘If you are French, if you have a French accent … you come in and you order a croissant [with a French accent], I’ll give you one. I’m not gonna decaf you. But I worked in Florida,’ he said.

He went on to imitate someone ordering with a Southern accent,  but pronouncing ‘croissant’ the way one would while speaking French.

‘I don’t know what it was, but if you don’t have a French accent and you say “cwassan”… it wasn’t just me,’ he said.

The video has earned quite a lot of backlash from commenters, who’ve chided @dolltin to ‘just do your job bro.’

‘As someone who needs caffeine for medical issues, this kinda makes me feel icky,’ wrote one.

‘This kind of stuff makes me worried that the thing I’m ordering aren’t the things I’m getting,’ said another.

‘That sounds like you shouldn’t have had your job,’ wrote one more.

‘You could be risking someone’s life,’ said yet another. ‘I drive a lot for a living and coffee is sometimes the only thing keeping me alive.’

However, some commenters defended the TikToker, insisting that rude people deserved what he did.

The TikToker has also made several videos responding to the criticism, telling critics to ‘calm down sweetheart’ and remarking, ‘You’re all stupid if you’re mad. It was a joke.’

He also tried to insist that there is no medical reason anyone would need caffeine, casting doubt on commenters who said they got headaches without it.

Of course, it is incredibly common for regular coffee drinkers to suffer from withdrawal symptoms like headaches if they don’t drink coffee one day.

TikTok has since removed the original video.
