Four people injured in a shooting west of Collinsville in Queensland

Four people are SHOT in a small Australian town as emergency services rush to the scene and the gunman still on the loose

  • One man was located a distance away and is being treated for a gunshot wound

Four people have reportedly been injured in a shooting in rural North Queensland.

Police and a RACQ Central Queensland rescue helicopter have been dispatched to the scene in Bogie, about 40km west of Bowen in the Whitsundays region. 

It is understood the incident happened at 9am on Thursday. 

A RACQ Central Queensland spokesperson said they understood the gunman is still on the loose. 

‘Police are currently responding to reports of a shooting of multiple people on a rural property near Collinsville,’ a QLD Police spokesperson said.

‘One male has been located some distance from the property and is currently being treated for a gunshot wound.

‘Police are currently conducting emergency operations in the area and are requesting members of the public and aircraft to not attend the location.’ 

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said a man, in his 30s, in critical condition has been airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital with wounds to his abdomen.

An emergency declaration area has been made under the Public Safety Act, which encompasses Sutherland Road, Normanby Road, Mount Compton Road and Starvation Creek.

Bogie is a small agricultural town with several cattle stations that is home to around 160 people.

One woman who works on Peter Delamothe Road, which connects Bogie to Bowen, told Daily Mail Australia she saw several police cars racing towards the direction of the incident.

‘I saw at least three police cars while I was outside and heard a few more sirens after that,’ she said. 

‘It’s not usually what you see. I thought straight away that something bad had happened.’

It is understood doctors and nurses with blood supplies and other medical resources have been sent from Bowen Hospital to Collinsville hospital to assist.
