Garrett Hedlund reveals that Tim McGraw is the godfather of he and Emma Roberts’ new baby 

Garrett Hedlund and Emma Roberts chose a very famous godfather for their new baby boy.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Hedlund, 36, revealed that country legend and actor Tim McGraw is his son Rhodes’ godfather. 

Emma, 30, and Garrett welcomed their bundle of joy just after Christmas.  

‘He’s somebody that I admire and respect, not only as an amazing father and an amazing husband, amazing musician and amazing actor…I’ve known him for a long time,’ Garrett said of Tim McGraw.

Garrett and McGraw co-starred together in not one but two films: Friday Night Lights in 2004 and Country Strong in 2010. 

‘We laugh about it because it’s probably been over 17 years since we did Friday Night Lights together, we played father and son,’ he explained. 

‘So I got to first experience him as a father — in that film, somewhat more of an abusive one — but then we did Country Strong together, and we’ve remained such close friends and, you know, I’ve seen his children, his daughters, from the time they were one, three and five,’ Garrett added. 

Hedlund, a first time father, is currently promoting his upcoming movie The United States vs. Billie Holiday directed by Lee Daniels.

In late August Emma officially made it public that she and Garrett were awaiting the arrival of their firstborn baby boy.

The pregnancy was first confirmed in July by Emma’s mother Kelly Cunningham, who replied: ‘Yes’ on Instagram when someone asked if her daughter was expecting.

Emma has experienced two big milestones recently as she became a mother two days after Christmas and then turned 30 this Wednesday.

She rang in her birthday with a selfie that showed her with a pacifier in her mouth, gently poking fun at her life as a new mother.

‘It’s been really an interesting time in the world to be pregnant right now,’ the niece of Julia Roberts told Glamour late in her pregnancy.

‘It’s definitely caused a lot of introspection, but I think it’s been amazing to really sit with myself and really turn inward in a way I never have before and be still. That’s been really nice, and I feel really grateful to have gotten to do that. To not just be running from one appointment to the next or one job to the next,’ she explained.

‘I’ve really had to be present with myself, and that’s been – some days you wanna crawl out of your skin, but other days you feel really good and really grateful.’
