A mother has been praised by other parents and even labelled a ‘genius’ after tricking her son into eating a healthier meal by putting it inside a Pot Noodle cup.

Marcella McDonagh, thought to be from the UK, took to the Facebook group Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas to share her clever hack.

The mother explained that her son had loved his first ever Pot Noodle, but that she didn’t want him eating them all the time.

So instead, she created a healthier, homemade version but served it in an empty Pot Noodle container to ensure he still loved the meal.

Parents hailed Marcella a ‘genius’ and admitted they’d be trying this ‘brilliant idea’ with their own children.

Taking to the social media platform, Marcella wrote: ‘Fake Pot Noodle! So my son had his first Pot Noodle the other day. Wasn’t sure to be proud or not, but he loved it.

‘So I found myself trying to feel better and completely scamming him with this fake (healthier) Pot Noodle! Yeh one day he will realise I’m a fake and a fraud, until then… eat away my lad.’

She later added: ‘If my fib upset you, don’t worry. I will even it out by December. Will tell him Santa isn’t real.

‘Some asked for the recipe. It’s just a simple stir fry. Fresh noodles, fresh bag of stir fry veg, chopped up chicken and garlic.

‘Added a tiny bit of katsu sauce just for the colour. But guess curry powder or cumin would work. It’s so simple and took four minutes to make. I added zero salt. Just as fresh as possible.’

Marcella’s post was liked more than 5,000 times and impressed parents were keen to praise the idea.

One wrote: ‘Oh my gosh…wish I’d have thought of this! It’s brilliant’, another said: ‘Looks way better than a Pot Noodle… I will have to make this for myself.’

A third questioned:  ‘How did you get away with this? My kids hear the kitchen cupboard or fridge open and they are in there every 15 seconds to see what I’m making.’

Another wrote: ‘That’s fab! Only downside is that your own cooking is getting passed off as ‘I had a Pot Noodle for dinner/tea’. I’d be gutted! But what a good idea!’
