The Catalan club confirmed on Sunday that Pique has a grade-three sprain of his internal lateral ligament and a partial injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
They did not say how long the defender is expected to be sidelined, but similar injuries tend to require months of recovery time.

With Barca trailing early in the second half, Atletico’s Angel Correa fell with his full weight onto Pique’s outstretched leg forcing it to bend in an awkward direction, with the Spaniard visibly distressed.
Pique had to be helped off the field and was taken straight to the changing room. After initial exams on Saturday Barcelona confirmed Pique had a sprained knee.
Barcelona also lost Sergi Roberto due to injury in Saturday’ match at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The club said he has a right thigh muscle rupture and will be sidelined for about two months.

The injuries add to the growing list of absentees for Barca, who are already without Ansu Fati and Samuel Umtiti as well as Roberto.
The Catalan side were in desperate need of a positive result going into the game but went fell to a defeat after Yannick Carrasco took advantage of a Marc-Andre ter Stegen error in the game’s only goal just before half time.
After another disastrous day in a difficult season for Ronald Koeman’s side, their third defeat leaves them 10th in LaLiga, nine points behind Atletico in second.
