Woman whose husband has suffered from depression for six years is praised for sharing an illustration by her 11-year-old daughter designed to help him through tough days

A heartwarming illustration by an 11-year-old has been praised for its advice directed to people suffering with anxiety and depression.

Twitter user Twinks, from the north of England, shared a photo of the drawing online after spotting that her daughter Ellie, 11, had placed it next to her husband’s bed.

Captioning the photo, she wrote: ‘My husband has suffered from depression and anxiety for about six years now (probably longer).

‘He’s pretty good now, but as you know there’s still sometimes a rubbish day. Today was one of those days. Just got home and Ellie age 11 has put this next to his bed.’

She received a flood of praise from social media users for sharing the illustration, with her post notching up more than 3,000 likes.

The illustration advised taking time to talk, go for a walk, have a drink or watch a film, as well as ‘just smiling’. 

Twinks expressed how proud she is of her daughter in a series of posts underneath the thread.

She was stunned to discover that her daughter had created the graphic without any help from the internet. 

One person wrote: ‘As a father I am lost in admiration for her care and optimism. You must be so proud!’

Another said: ‘Love that. Sometimes the only thing I need to lift me is something like that from my daughter. Your husband is a lucky dad.’

A flood of Twitter users expressed their admiration for Ellie's drawing and revealed they would be keeping it for their own bad days

Many commenters who struggle with their own mental health praised Ellie and told how actions like this have really helped them. 

One person wrote: ‘Oh boy. As someone who suffers badly myself, can’t even explain what things like this do to help break that cycle.’

Another said: ‘Just had a visit from the black dog myself and shed a little tear but also a big smile. Wonderful young lady.’

A third added: ‘As a sufferer myself and still in bed, I’ve screenshot it and now I’m going to get up and eat something. What an amazing young lady and inspiration. Thank you for being open and sharing.’
