Grimes was spotted walking around the streets of Los Angeles while reading Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto on Friday.
The musician, 33, was seen perusing the pages of the highly-influential, 1848 text as she sported an ensemble, seemingly inspired by cosplay or fantasy themes.
The book outlines the arguments and platform of the Communist party, whose goal is to create a socioeconomic order structured upon the ideas of common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state.
Her outing marks the first time that she had been seen in public since she split up from multibillionaire Elon Musk, 50, with whom she shares son X Æ A-Xii, 16 months, and came before she confessed her outing was a quest to ‘become a meme’.

Grimes wore a purple one-piece bodysuit with multiple textures present on various portions of the sci-fi-esque outfit.
The performer, born Claire Elise Boucher, was also seen wearing a dark brown one-piece, as well as a hooded cloak that draped over her shoulders.
The Vowels = space and time singer’s white-and-purple hair shot out from beneath her hood and contrasted well with the earthy tones of her clothing.
She tied off her eye-catching ensemble with a pair of high-top black boots that covered the lower parts of her leggings.

Grimes later took to Twitter to let her fans know that she was attempting to play a joke by reading the text.
The musician later clarified that she was aware of the outlandishness of the photos and that she was not interested in over-analyzing her behavior and actions.
She noted that she had ‘taught myself to stop checking if other ppl think I’m socially acceptable a long time ago. Worrying about being cringe is the enemy of art, failure tolerance is essential for creativity. Deciding not to be mad at ppl enjoying life is ok.’

The performer also expressed that she was ‘not a communist’ and that she did not know how to articulate her personal beliefs regarding governments at the moment.
She wrote: ‘My opinions on politics are difficult to describe because the political systems that inspire me the most have not yet been implemented’.
The singer then noted that, if she remained the subject of worldwide attention, she would consider playing around even further – in a bid to become a meme.

‘It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room,’ he said.
