Gwyneth Paltrow is ‘proud’ to have popularized the term ‘conscious uncoupling’

Gwyneth Paltrow says she is ‘proud’ to have made some divorces ‘easier’ by popularizing ‘conscious uncoupling’ following her split from Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow said her embrace of ‘conscious uncoupling’ may have made divorce easier for others.

The actress, 50, who recently showed off her toned abs at the Front Row Daily Fashion Awards, opened up about the phrase in a question and answer session in her Instagram Stories.

The Goop founder was make-up free and wearing a black crew neck sweater as she answered a query about how she feels about ‘being credited for coining the phrase unconscious coupling’ following her amicable split from ex-husband Chris Martin.

‘I definitely did not coin the phrase,’ the Oscar winner clarified. ‘But, I feel despite us taking quite a lot of s**t for it when we first announced that all these years ago.’

She continued: ‘I feel very proud that we were able to, maybe, make some divorces a little bit easier, happier.’

Gwyneth first used the term via an essay on her Goop website in 2014  after she and her then-spouse, 46, were splitting up.

The couple married in 2003.

They are the parents of Apple, 18 and Moses, 17.

The figure of speech was originally published in 2009 by Katherine Woodward Thomas. She later went on to write New York Times bestseller about the process in 2015.

Gwyneth shared how her sharing the method had helped others.

‘It makes me feel pretty proud when people come up to me on the streets and say, “Thank you for introducing that concept because I’ve become good friends with my ex.”

She then added: ‘I’m very happy that we were able to play a small part in that cultural shift.’
