A crafty cow has learned to dodge electric shocks when freeing her pals – grabbing the electric fence’s plastic insulation handles with her teeth and unclipping the wires.

Herdsman Wylie Wood was checking on cattle in Hartland, Vermont, when he spotted one of the animals tugging at the charged wire on February 4.

Hilarious footage shows the cow licking at the bright orange protector before switching her attention to the middle barrier.

Grabbing the plastic in her teeth, the cow lifted the hook free of its station, letting the wire fall to the snowy ground.

Having loosened one barrier, the cow then focused her attention on the bottom wire managing to undo that one even quicker than the first.

Wood, 30, said: ‘I have never seen a cow do this in my life. I just couldn’t believe what I was watching.

‘I’ve no idea how she figured it out unless she has watched us lifting the gate clear. I reattached the wire a couple of times just to watch her do it again and sure enough she did.

‘The fence is there to keep the cows safe on the property. Where she bit into is plastic insulation to allow us to open and close the gates when we need to get in.

‘She doesn’t have a very exciting name – it’s H308 currently – but we’re going to start calling her Houdini after seeing this.’

The footage has been viewed more than four million times since being uploaded to social media.
